Local Company Announces Major Expansion

City of Charleston Release

Charleston, SC. SPARC announced this morning the substantial expansion of their relatively young company in the City of Charleston. SPARC, a company offering a broad range of technology services, including Software Systems Design and Development, announced the expansion of their campus which will provide about 310 new jobs. SPARC, located at 2387 Clements Ferry Road, will expand and consolidate their operations into a multi-building campus, featuring natural-light buildings, an auditorium, and other amenities. The company intends to construct an additional building, giving the company up to 100,000 square feet of space. Construction is expected to begin in January and the new building will be in use in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. said, "The rise and success of SPARC is a national level success story and I congratulate CEO Eric Bowman and his team for their tremendous achievements. Today's announcement foretells yet another amazing chapter in the company's growth."

Mayor Riley added, "Also, the construction of another building as a part of SPARC's campus and the growth of 300 more high tech jobs confirms Charleston's very prominent role as a leader in the growth of the knowledge economy in our country. This is another example following last week's announcement by BenefitFocus of adding 300 high tech jobs, of the explosive growth in the Charleston's Digital Corridor."

Councilmember Gary White said, "This is a very proud addition to the Daniel Island and Clement Ferry burgeoning knowledge economy. The fact that this area and the Charleston community continues to see this kind of phenomenal growth of high tech jobs is a most positive sign for the future."

Ernest Andrade, Director of Charleston's Digital Corridor, related "This expansion once again validates the impressive gains being made by Charleston's knowledge economy. It reflects 10 years of hard work by the Charleston Digital Corridor to nurture a culture sought by these knowledge based companies."
