Sabal Concluding Product Pilot, Inks Customer Deal

Sabal Medical

Daniel Island, South Carolina (April 17, 2009) – Sabal Medical Inc, a privately held company whose products are helping hospitals deliver medications to their patients more safely and efficiently, announced today that a pilot of their Sabal™ Cart system at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital (GCMH) in Oakland, MD, is nearly complete and a phased, house-wide system implementation will begin soon. GCMH is a not-for-profit, acute care community hospital in the Appalachian mountain region of western Maryland.

Their plan to adopt bar coded medication administration included the evaluation of the latest technology to safely and efficiently delivery medications right to the patient's bedside. The two-phased Sabal trial began with the safe delivery of medications to a few patients, and scaled to the final phase which successfully accommodated a fully-loaded nursing unit, providing pharmacy order management, inventory control, reporting, patient identification, and bedside medication checking using bar code technology.

"I'm very pleased with the result of this trial and delighted to have GCMH as a customer," said Bill Park, President and CEO of Sabal Medical. "The solid teamwork between pharmacy, nursing, IT, and our development and support staff was, and continues to be key in creating the safest medication distribution system possible. GCMH played a vital role in helping to shape the final stages of our software and will continue to do so as a reference site."

"The Sabal Cart System provides an opportunity for us to bring a safer medication delivery system to the patient's bedside," says Dr. Lance Rhodes, Director of Pharmacy for GCMH. "The nurses were very pleased with the efficiencies of the system and are excited about the prospects of implementation of the system hospital-wide. The Sabal professionals have been very responsive to our needs during the trial. We are excited about being a partner with Sabal in providing our patients with safe, efficient, high-quality service," said Rhodes.

GCMH has chosen to move ahead with the Sabal product with a phased implementation plan that include several units throughout their facility, including Acute, Subacute, ER, ICU, and Med Surge.
