The federal government, particularly the Department of Defense, is under a transformation to attract new "non-traditional" companies, increase competition, and help ensure future technological superiority. There are several new and improved ways that lower the barriers for entry into this marketplace from partnering with the existing defense industry, federal labs, and even going direct by yourself through a variety of innovative models in pitches, challenges, and demonstrations. For example, last month the Air Force awarded 51 proposals in 15 minutes or less.
