Google and the Town of Moncks Corner announced that the Moncks Corner Ballpark will now have Wi-Fi access. Computers, laptops and handheld users are now able to access the Internet 100% free of charge.

"Our goal is to make access to information easier for everyone, said Rob Sanchez, Google SC Data Center Operations Manager. "Creating free access to online information at the new ballpark is a great way ensure the Moncks Corner community has access to information they need online."

Google provided a community grant to operate and maintain the Wi-Fi network. In all, Google has provided more $430,000 to create Wi-Fi hotspots across the Lowcountry. For this project, Google has invested $60,000 in Moncks Corner's new Wi-Fi and in year two, Google intends to expand the project to reach the future farmers market, playground and soccer fields that are already under way.

"The movement to provide free Wi-Fi service to all visitors to the Moncks Corner Regional Recreation Complex is a wonderful gift from Google, said Mayor Lockliear. As free Wi-Fi service expands throughout Moncks Corner and the surrounding area, access to email and other web-based activities will make people's lives easier, safer, and more productive while enjoying your time watching activities that are scheduled here in the Complex throughout the year."

42 teams and 500 local attendees, including local businesses and elected officials, came out for the Opening Day ceremonies. A group of baseball and softball players cut the cord to officially make the area a wireless zone. The Wi-Fi network is now live and available to the public. For more information, please visit: chsfreewifi.com
