Crafting Code Tour Lands in Charleston

Charleston's software community is always abuzz when experts drop into town and share their knowledge. Such was the case this week when the Digital Corridor hosted Brandon Savage's Crafting Code Tour to a standing-room only audience. Savage, owner of Tailwinds and former developer at Mozilla, is well respected in the PHP community as an expert, author and speaker. He also brings along other highly knowledgeable coders.

A licensed pilot since 2011, Brandon Savage is flying to 18 cities, 16 states, and 3 countries on his brief summer tour. "This guy is a rock star in the coding community and we are excited Charleston was selected as a venue on this tour," said Digital Corridor Director, Ernest Andrade.

In addition to Brandon himself, Charleston's Crafting Code Tour speakers included Cal Evans of Pantheon. His talk "PHP from the CLI" unveiled the versatility of the PHP language, which was written for web development. PHP, as Evans demonstrated, can also be used for backend development. "What you end up with," Savage said of Evans' talk, "is a language that can do a whole lot more than it used to be able to do."

Hosting the Crafting Code Tour at the Flagship is in keeping with with the Digital Corridor's mantra of offering value to a targeted audience and this event, like the CODEshow 2013 conference and CODEtalk series, did not disappoint. "We are listening to our members and expect to host more events targeted at improving our coding community," said Corridor Program Manager, Carolyn Finch.
