Charleston Digital Corridor’s 2014 iFive:K Brings Tech Community Together

Staff Report  /  Charleston Digital Corridor

Charleston, S.C. (April 22, 2014) – On a crisp April evening, Charleston's tech community came together for the eighth annual Innovators iFive:K Run-Walk-Shuffle event. The unique weekday event has grown from 250 runners at its launch in 2007 to its cap of 800 registrants, and it sold out in a record 23 days after tickets went on sale on January 1, 2014.

The iFive:K, sponsored entirely by Charleston's robust tech community, allows for an evening of spirited competition while raising scholarship funds for CODEcamp and other education initiatives of the Digital Corridor. The 2014 event raised a record amount of just over $35,000.

"There is no better example of tech community engagement in the country than the iFive:K race," said Digital Corridor Director Ernest Andrade.

The iFive:K race event was followed by an after-party at the Charleston Maritime Center where companies competed for the coveted "SPIRIT" of the race award. This year, BoomTown edged out SPARC to win the Bragging Rights trophy.

"We work hard at BoomTown, but we play hard too, and we were thrilled to accept the 2014 SPIRIT Award" said Grier Allen, CEO & President of BoomTown. "We love any excuse to come together as a company, and the iFive:K event gives us an amazing opportunity to convene each year with our fellow tech companies to support the Charleston Digital Corridor and celebrate the success of the tech community in Charleston."
