Powered by Google Entrepreneurs, Startup Grind Launches Charleston Chapter

Daniel Drolet

(Charleston, SC) March 14, 2014 - Guided by its Silicon Valley parent and its partnership with Google Entrepreneurs, Startup Grind has launched in Charleston. Directed by successful local entrepreneurs who will follow the strategic plans and guidelines that have made Startup Grind such a huge success in Silicon Valley and other locations around the world; the Charleston chapter is opening by hosting it first event on March 28th.

Started by Derek Andersen and Spencer Nielsen in February 2010 in a small office in Mountain View California, the original goal of Startup Grind was to bring together friends who would help each other has now spread across the world.Startup Grind now spans across 85 cities, 35 countries, and includes over 60,000 entrepreneurs.

Highlighting its success, the recent Startup Grind 2014 conference held in Silicon Valley included speakers such as the co-founder of LinkedIn Reid Hoffman, Ben Horowitz of VC firm Andreesen Horowitz, MC Hammer, Aileen Lee of Cowboy Ventures and many other leaders in the startup community. All offered their support, stories and inspiration for the entrepreneurial spirit and Startup Grind supported companies.

The first Startup Grind Charleston event is scheduled for Friday, March 28th from 2:00 – 5:00pm and will be a three hour event hosted by Nelson Mullins located at 151 Meeting Street. The first guest is Mitchell Davis.

Mitchell is a Charleston native, successful entrepreneur and digital publishing technologist. In 2000, Mitchell founded BookSurge allowing authors to self-publish books, manuscripts and other literary works. In 2005, after four years of accelerated growth, BookSurge was acquired by Amazon. Amazon quickly integrated BookSurge as part of its global services platform and renamed the company CreateSpace which then became the world's first fully integrated global print-on-demand and publishing services company. After two years in senior management at Amazon, Mitchell returned to Charleston where he then co-founded BiblioLabs with his partners.

BiblioLabs has reinvented the way in which libraries store, manage, and make their literary works and other media available to their patrons. It is self-funded, currently profitable, and in 2012 was confirmed by Inc. Magazine's Top 500 list as the seventh fastest growing media company right behind Facebook.

Tickets to the event are now available for purchase on Eventbrite.
