Greenville?s Immedion expanding to Lowcountry

Staff Report  /  Charleston Regional Business Journal

Immedion LLC is building a data center at the Palmetto Commerce Park near Ladson in Charleston County, the Greenville-based company announced Wednesday.

The new data center will give Immedion coverage along the Interstate 26 corridor from the Upstate to the coast. It already operates sites in Greenville and Columbia. The Charleston County data center is scheduled to open next spring.

"Locating our third data center in Charleston will better enable us to meet the growing tech needs of the coastal region" said Immedion CEO Frank Mobley. "There is a lot of exciting growth in Charleston and we're confident our colocation facility will be a valuable resource for many of the current businesses located here as well as ones considering coming here. In addition, the provisioning of a third, geographically diverse location allows Immedion to provide uptime for critical technology beyond the capabilities of any single data center location."

The Charleston County facility will be constructed to withstand high winds and other special conditions associated with coastal regions.

Immedion's announcement "is a prime example of how much Charleston's knowledge-based economy is expanding," said Ernest Andrade, executive director of Charleston's Digital Corridor. "Immedion is the kind of company we want here and will help attract more companies with the services they provide."

The Charleston site will offer the same services as the Greenville and Columbia facilities with the goal of helping customers to meet all of their IT space, server power, disaster recovery, cloud computing, and regulatory compliance demands.
