A Time to Innovate: Israeli Technology Transforms the World

The Charleston Chapter of Hadassah is pleased to announce a free program.

From voice mail technology to ingestible video cameras; from computer guided surgeries to drip irrigation systems; from instant messaging technology to the Intel Pentium processing chip, Israeli technology is changing the global landscape and changing people's lives around the world. Israel has more engineers and scientists per capita than any other country.

This program showcases Israel's hi-tech industries, Israeli entrepreneurs, and Hadassah College Jerusalem's leadership in medical and technological advances. The program will be held Sunday, March 30, 2007, at 1:00PM at The Sylvia Vlosky Yaschik Jewish Studies Center, College of Charleston, 96 Wentworth Street, Charleston.

Three speakers are featured:
Ellyn Lyons, National Vice President Hadassah and Chair, Hadassah College Jerusalem will provide the big picture view of how Hadassah College Jerusalem is leading the way in training students to think outside the box and to bring new and innovative ideas to emerging, amazing, and highly competitive hi-tech industries in Israel. From designing digital systems to marketing business strategies, from courses in philosophy to intellectual property, Hadassah College Jerusalem graduates are at the forefront of extraordinary medical and technological advances.

Karen Becker, PhD, Founder and CEO of Becker Consulting and Becker Venture Services Group – Dr. Becker has over 15 years of experience providing strategic scientific consulting services to healthcare companies and their counsel, supporting the development, marketing, regulation, and stewardship of innovative healthcare products. Specialized services for emerging technology, the financial community, and venture capital-funded companies are provided through the venture services group, Becker VSG, and Becker Venture Partners. Headquartered in Washington, DC, Becker VSG has recently opened a branch office in Tel Aviv. Dr. Becker will share insights on hi-tech advances from Israel, why she elected to have a presence in Israel, and her perspective on the economic opportunities and challenges to success for entrepreneurs and investors in Israel.

Mark DeLegge, MD, Medical Director for the Digestive Disease Center, MUSC - Dr. DeLegge is nationally recognized in the fields of nutrition and gastroenterology, is widely published and is active in numerous professional organizations including the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. DeLegge is also very active in the development of new endoscopic techniques, especially in the field of the endoscopic management of obesity. Dr. DeLegge will discuss how an invention has revolutionized the way gastroenterology is practiced, namely the "pillcam" - a capsule endoscope for small bowel investigation - invented in Israel.
