Bruce Cavey
Bruce W Cavey is a retired Navy nuclear submarine Captain with 24 years service. After commanding the USS Daniel Boone SSBN 629 Blue, a Trident Fleet Ballistic Missile nuclear submarine, he was selected in the early 90’s to lead the submarine force project management team to bring the USA joint military command , made up of all military branches, into the internet age. That project resulted in the internet site being recognized as the CIO Magazine Top 50 intranet site award recipient for the most innovative and comprehensive working systems.
A successful experience as USA Chief of Counterdrug Operations, the military’s DOD interagency technology integration leader in support to ONDCP, Coast Guard, Customs, DEA, Border Patrol and NATO and Caribbean nation alliances prepared him well for cross over to industry in planning and implementing complex ERP and BI technology implementation projects.
He went to work as the Information Technology (IT) strategic planner for an Engineering firm niche to Caterpillar. There he developed an innovative team of system experts that concentrated on high impact project management to turnaround failing IT projects. He left that organization for a position as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of a new personal body scanning imaging system where he and his R&D team developed a portable body imaging system that was featured by Lands End and Brookes Brothers for a new way of getting their customers perfect fitting clothes designed, fitted, ordered and delivered using the internet. He came to Hanson North America, a large global building construction products and mining company, as the Director of Information Technology Development where he designed and implemented the modernization, standardization, and centralization of over 9 legacy databases into one and upgraded them all to the newest J D Edwards (JDE) Enterprise One system. As a result of this project he was asked by the Oracle /JDE worldwide user community to present as one of the 2004-2005 project success stories in its worldwide conference. He introduced the company’s first intranet system, centralized help desk, centralized Payroll time keeping and compensation systems and Hanson University, a web based training system. He planned, implemented and executed a rollout of ORACLE E business suite 11i ERP front and back office to over 60 pipe and precast plants in the US and Canada. He was promoted to Director of the IT Project Management Office (PMO) to use the model of North America IT operations for a global platform 22 country rollout. He led a global leadership team in the development and implementation of all IT procedures to successfully meet Sarbanes–Oxley certification.
He left Lehigh Hanson to start KV IT Consulting LLC that concentrates on high impact IT project management to help company’s turnaround stalled and/or failing IT ERP projects. He trains customers on how to set up and implement a Project Management Office (PMO) including PMBOK and Agile methodologies with PM leadership development processes. He was hired by the CIO of Enterprise Applications of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill to turn around a stalled legacy system conversion for their new PeopleSoft ERP system. He was asked to set up a PMO SharePoint worksite and help select and train six project managers. The CIO credited his effort as the driving force for making Enterprise systems self-sustaining. The Wake County Raleigh North Carolina CIO invited him to turnaround a failed HR/PR ERP implementation. His revamp of the plan, vendor management, and training of 4 Project Managers saved months in the development life cycle and got the system implementation back on track.
He is finishing his PhD thesis in Management Information Systems while teaching IT Project management at a local University. He assists technology start- up companies in their technology integration strategy. He and his wife Carol and their two daughters reside in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Will relcate to Charleston at own expence.
